In the early morning hours of January 29, 2012, eight
EligeVeganismo [ChooseVeganism] activists entered a broiler
chicken farm south of Santiago to rescue nine individuals and take them
far away from the shed where they had been relegated and fattened for
the last three months. In the coming days, each one of them would have
been part of the 24,000 birds slaughtered per hour at this company.
At about five in the morning, activists entered the
breeding shed and put three females and six males who were ready to be
sent to slaughter in boxes and carried them to a home that they got to
know and explore in the early hours of the morning. A home where they
will live free and separate from any kind of human use.
The broiler chicken is a species traditionally bred for
consumption. The genetic modification of these birds is used as an
argument to justify the fact that they exist only to satisfy our eating
habits, ignoring the fact that-- just like any animal-- in each one of
them there exists the longing for freedom and the necessity of
satisfying their own interests.
The boxes that brought them there were abandoned and
they enjoyed the sun and exploring in the grass for the first time in
their lives. For many this may seem meaningless, but have you ever
thought about what those first moments of freedom mean to an oppressed
animal? Recognizing that there is a world beyond the monotonous
landscape of the breeding shed where they could barely move around?
The thousands of birds who share that space have become
a number. We will keep the memory of their faces and their desperation,
thus reaffirming our commitment to continue to carry out open rescues
which radically change the lives of more and more individuals, like all
types of actions that raise awareness about the urgent need for the
human species to take the interests of animals into account.
This was the largest open rescue by EligeVeganismo to
date and the first in South America of this species of bird: nine
stories began to be written on Jan. 29; spread the word and share. We
want to spread the message so that no one can evade the responsibility
of recognizing the faces of the individuals behind the product.

enero de 2012, ocho activistas de EligeVeganismo ingresaron a un
criadero de pollos broiler al sur de Santiago para rescatar a nueve
individuos y trasladarlos lejos del galpón donde habían sido relegados y
engordados durante los últimos tres meses. Cada uno de ellos formaría
parte en los próximos días de las 24.000 aves faenadas por hora en esta
empresa.
A eso de las cinco de la madrugada, los activistas
ingresaron al galpón de crianza y trasladaron en cajas a tres hembras y
seis machos listos para ser enviados a matadero hasta un hogar que
conocieron y exploraron a partir de las primeras horas de la mañana. Un
hogar donde vivirán libres y ajenos a toda clase de utilización humana.
Los pollos broilers son una especie tradicionalmente
criada para consumo. Su modificación genética es uno de los argumentos
que suele darse a menudo para justificar su existencia solo a causa de
los hábitos alimenticios de nuestra especie, ignorando que – al igual
que todo animal – habita en cada uno de ellos la búsqueda de libertad y
la necesidad de satisfacción hacia sus propios intereses.
Abandonaron las cajas que los trasladaron y disfrutaron
del sol y la exploración en la hierba por primera vez en sus vidas. Para
cualquiera de nosotros esto puede carecer de sentido, pero ¿Has pensado
alguna vez lo que significa para un animal oprimido aquéllos primeros
momentos de libertad?, ¿Reconocer un mundo más allá de los monótonos
paisajes del galpón de crianza donde apenas podían moverse?.
Durante estos días, las miles de aves que compartían su
espacio han pasado a ser una cifra. Nosotros guardaremos el recuerdo de
sus rostros y su desesperación mientras ratificamos con ello nuestro
compromiso de continuar realizando rescates abiertos que permitan
cambiar radicalmente la vida de más y más individuos, así como toda
clase de acción tendiente a concientizar sobre la urgente necesidad de
que los intereses de los animales sean tomados en cuenta por la especie
humana.
Este se constituye como el rescate a cara descubierta
más grande de EligeVeganismo a la fecha y el primero en sudamérica de
esta especie de aves: nueve historias han comenzado a escribirse este 29
de enero, difúndelas, comparte. Queremos que el mensaje se expanda de
modo que nadie pueda evadir la responsabilidad de reconocer el rostro de
los individuos detrás del producto.
