May 20, 2012 - FOUR HENS LIBERATED FROM EGG FARM

received anonymously:

"During the second week of May 2012, two activists entered an egg farm located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. 4 hens were removed from the premises and placed in good homes where they will live out the rest of their natural lives. This is the same farm where 6 hens were liberated last January.

This action was done to save these individual animals from the torture and misery intrinsic to industrialized egg production, as well as to demonstrate that although we may not be able to free every animal, we can free some. This was done in full solidarity with the anarchists and animal liberationists facing state repression here on the west coast and abroad.

Freeing the prisoners.
ALF

**We are intentionally omitting the name, address, and specifics of the farm targeted. The relatively small number of animals taken will most likely, once again, go unnoticed by the farmer and will hopefully allow us to take advantage of the non-existent security on this farm for future raids and investigations."

May 11, 2012 - VICTOR VANORDEN, SADIE AND EXILE RELEASED!

"Green Scare" Defendants

The term "Green Scare," alluding to the Red Scare of the 1940s and '50s, refers to legal and extralegal actions taken by the U.S. government against environmental and animal rights activists. Like the Red Scare, the Green Scare uses new laws and new arms of the state to harshly punish a few individuals in order to repress an entire movement.

In December 2005, government agents carried out a nationwide sweep of arrests, charging fourteen individuals with actions claimed by the Earth Liberation Front and/or Animal Liberation Front in the Northwestern U.S. dating back to the mid-90's. The actions include a 1997 fire that destroyed a horse slaughterhouse in Oregon (the plant was not rebuilt), and fires that destroyed pens and chutes at Bureau of Land Management wild horse holding compounds in Oregon, Wyoming and California (horses were also freed during the actions). Despite no injury caused to any living being, a judge determined that some of the arsons constituted "terrorism" under Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

In November 2006, Nathan Block, Daniel McGowan, Jonathan Paul and Joyanna Zacher entered non-cooperation plea agreements in which they accepted responsibility for their own roles in environmentally-motivated property crimes, but did not agree to provide information or testify against anyone now or in the future.

Unfortunately, other individuals admitted guilt after their arrests and proceeded to provide information to the government. In order to receive reduced sentences, these individuals agreed to cooperate with the state in ongoing investigations against the environmental and animal rights movements. Those individuals are not listed here.

April 12, 2012 - HUNT SABOTAGE

received anonymously:

"Early this morning in the USA, three anti-hunters toppled a hunting blind, three tree-stands, and smashed a trail camera.

As we approached the hunting complex, we stayed in the brush and peered into the hunting blind with binoculars to make sure the field was empty. Once we were sure that no one was in the area, we sprang into action and went after the deer killing blind.

The hunting blind had its supports silently cut with a saw, and was then pushed over into the field. The impact from the 20 foot fall tore the actual hunting blind from the tree stand, undoing all the hours it took the killers to construct the stand in about 10 minutes. After the hunting stand was taken care of, we went after the three steel tree stands that were further back in the field. The support straps on these three stands were cut, and the tree stands were then dismantled and disposed of. Upon leaving the field we saw a trail camera strapped onto a piece of wood, which was also destroyed.

We saved some wildlife from being maimed and killed by gun wielding sadists with our actions, but hunting is an extremely widespread, environmentally degrading and disgusting practice that needs to be stopped as much as possible, by anyone who has the opportunity to do so.

April 7, 2012 - CHICKENS RESCUED, "EVERY LIFE COUNTS"

anonymous report:

"Some small actions:

January 2012: 6 hens were removed from an intensive egg farm located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

February 2012: 3 chickens were rescued and re-homed from a broiler farm in Washington state.

Escaping the horrors of the factory farm, these individuals will live out the remainder of their lives in freedom in open fields.

Solidarity with non-cooperating green scare prisoners and those on the run.

Every life counts,

March 16, 2012 - DOZENS OF PHEASANTS FREED BY THE ALF

reported anonymously:

"Last night, the night of March 14th, we infiltrated the property Queener Ridge Pheasant Company (40485 Queener Drive, Scio, OR) which breeds ringneck pheasants primarily to be murdered in commercial canned hunts. After jumping a barbed wire fence, we made our way to the main breeding facility where we dismantled a huge section of an aviary that held between 75-150 pheasants; liberating them into the night sky. Although the number of animals freed represented only a tiny fraction of the thousands more still held captive on this farm, we feel that every life saved--no matter how few--is a victory.

Ringneck pheasants are a naturalized species to this region and are specifically bred to retain their wild characteristics and instincts, so we have no doubt that these animals can survive in the wild upon
release. Otherwise doomed to a life of confinement and brutality these sentient animals now have a fighting chance at survival.

For an industry whose only purpose is the infliction of violence against sentient animals for entertainment and pleasure, the only ethical choice we can make is to set your animals free.

Against all domination,
--Animal Liberation Front"

Pheasants used in so-called Sport-shoots are raised in intensive confinement; the crowded, unnatural conditions within the pens lead to aggression, counteracted by a variety of mutilations and physical restraints, the most common of which is 'debeaking'. If the birds aren't killed outright during the shoots, their necks are wrung. Many are simply left to bleed to death.

Theo Hopkins wrote to the Daily Telegraph:
"I recently saw a pheasant shot and wounded 40 yards above the ground. The 2lb bird, flapping and shedding feathers, hit the ground with an audible thump. It couldn't fly, but tried to run. A dog grabbed it by the wing and dragged it across the field and through a dense hedge. The bird and wing parted company. The dog looked momentarily confused, but then thankfully grabbed the body. The bird continued to flap around at the Gun's feet awhile, while he waited for his next shot. Eventually he picked up the bird by the feet and repeatedly swung its head against a fence post."

January 17, 2012 - LOCKS GLUED AT "SUSTAINABLE" BUTCHER SHOP

anonymous report:

"Glossy banner stolen from outside 'The Local Butcher Shop' in Berkeley, CA. In addition, their locks were superglued on two separate occasions..

The Local Butcher Shop is the latest creation of Alice Waters, San Francisco Bay Area yuppie extraordinaire and artisan killer.

There is nothing 'sustainable' or 'enlightened' about the commodification of non-human life.

In 2009, Jordan was found in contempt of court for refusing to testify before a federal grand jury investigating fur farm raids in Utah. After more than 3 months behind bars, he was released but was then charged with criminal contempt. "It is believed to be the first time in two decades, and only the third time in U.S. history, that someone has been imprisoned for criminal contempt of court after already serving prison time for civil contempt" (greenisthenewred.com).

January 9, 2012 - 14 CATTLE TRUCKS GO UP IN FLAMES

anonymous claim of responsibility:

"at about 3:40 am on sunday, january 8th, 14 cattle trucks caught fire at the harris feeding company in coalinga, ca. containers of accelerant were placed beneath a row of 14 trucks with 4 digital timers used to light 4 of the containers and kerosene-soaked rope carrying the fire to the other 10 (a tactic adapted from Home Alone 2 [if you're going to try this make sure to use kerosene, gasoline dries too quickly]). we weren't sure how well this was going to work, so we waited until there was news reports before writing this. we were extremely pleased to see that all 14 trucks 'were a total loss' with some being 'completely melted to the ground.'

we're not going to use this space to expound upon the horrors and injustices of factory farming. there is more than enough armchair-activists and those of passive politics who are more than willing to do that (anything to keep from getting their hands dirty). we, the unsilent minority (the 1%, if you will), choose a more direct form of action.

we're not delusional enough to believe that this action will shut down the harris feeding company, let alone have any effect on factory farming as a whole. but we maintain that this type of action still has worth, if not solely for the participant's peace of mind, then to show that despite guards, a constant worker presence, and razorwire fence, the enemy is still vulnerable.

finally, to all those who fantasize and romanticize about direct action yet remain on the fence: there is a lot of stuff that needs to be destroyed and we can't count on spontaneous combustion and careless welders to do all the work.

until next time..."

[Press Office note: Harris Ranch Beef Company is California's largest fed cattle "processor" producing nearly 200 million pounds of beef a year. The largest cattle feeder on the West Coast and 14th largest nationally encompasses a 100,000-head feed lot. At any given time there will normally be between 70-100,000 head of cattle on feed. Harris Feeding Company feeds about 1/3 of all the cows murdered in California. Cows spend the last days of their short, brutal lives standing in their own waste, until hauled off to have their throats slit and their bodies sliced into small pieces for human consumption. New developments in the investigation of Sunday's Harris Ranch fire, the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, sent out an email, and it has very specific details about the fire.
